GJELINA – (9.6)

  • Trendy American / Bomb Pizza – $$$
  • Must Order:
    • Moroccan Eggs
    • Any/All Pizzas
    • All Vegetable Sides (Broccoli is my fave)
  • Best For: Lunch, Brunch, Dinner…anytime for any reason
  • My favorite restaurant in Los Angeles. Wow, just wow. This place is amazing. Trendy ambiance, really cute back patio. The food not only looks Instagram worthy (even the vegetables come out looking like they were made for the camera), but it tastes even better. I obviously have a soft spot for pizza but every dish here is a 10. They take reservations (which are really hard to get), but most of the time I just walk in and put my name down; the wait has never been too painful, plus it’s right on Abbot Kinney so you can walk up and down the shops while you wait.
  • They have Gjelina Take Away right next door if the wait is too crazy.

GJUSTA – (8.6)

  • Hipster Bakery / Deli – $$
  • Best For: Casual Breakfast / Brunch / Lunch, Pastry
  • So this is a sister restaurant to Gjelina – same high quality of food, but superrr casual. It is more like a coffee shop / bakery – think pastries/sandwiches. You walk in and grab a number, once your number is called you order from the counter and then scrounge around for a seat. The quality of the food is a 10, but this place is always crowded and the seating is really limited so there is a good shot you may have to stand up and eat (not good for groups). Still you should 100% come here.
  • They have their own parking lot. Also if this place is too busy, Rose’s Cafe is right down the street.
  • *They deliver to 90291 area code.

HOTEL ERWIN – HIGH ROOFTOP LOUNGE – (8.4)

  • Trendy Rooftop Lounge – $$$
  • Best For: Drinks, Rooftop Bar, Day/Afternoon Drinking
  • On the rooftop of Hotel Erwin is the High Rooftop Lounge. Such a great set up with amazing views of Venice and the ocean, with tables where you can sit and hang out on comfy couches and enjoy a few drinks with friends. One of the best views and set ups in the west side Los Angeles area.
  • Make a reservation!!!! This place is really popular on the weekends, so there may be a wait to get up to the roof, and then it is really crowded – long lines to get drinks, with very limited open seating. You don’t want to be awkwardly standing on the roof holding your $15 drink with all the other peasants. You can only stay at the table for 3 hours, but that’s fine. Also- they have food and blankets if you get cold or hungry.

OSCAR’S CERVETECA  – (8.4)

  • Trendy, Casual Mexican – $$
  • Must Order:
    • Chicano Cheese Pots
  • Best For: Lunch, Dinner, Happy Hour, Date, Friends
  • Right of Rose Ave. Cerveteca is a great casual restaurant to grab lunch on a nice day. They have a small covered patio area in the front. The restaurant itself is pretty small so try not to come here with big groups. Trendy, yet casual + good food + good happy hour deals = come hurr.
  • Happy hour: Mon – Fri, 3-6. $6 beer, $8 wine. $5 tacos, $8-$11 small plates!

SCOPA – (9.6)

  • NYC Italian – $$$
  • Must Order:
    • RICE BALL
    • Meatballs
    • Prosciutto and Burrata
  • Best For: Nice Dinner, Date
  • LOVE this restaurant. The ambiance is really cool – high ceilings, brick walls, dramatic bar area, NYC vibes all around. The food is reallyyyy good, I also love this place because I don’t feel like they are trying too hard like some places in Los Angeles – their atmosphere is cool, and their food is great, but they aren’t all uppity about it.
  • You should try and make a reservation – to make a res you have to call them between 12-6pm. If you walk in there will probably be a wait, but the bar area is open seating.

SUPERBA FOOD + BREAD – (8.9)

  • Californian Cafe / Bakery – $$
  • Must Order:
    • Prosciutto or Avocado Toast
    • Grain Bowl!! + egg
    • Morning Bun
  • Best For: Casual Breakfast, Brunch, Lunch
  • Another one of my favorites in LA. This place just kills it. Everything from the laid back open / beachy feel to their pastries to their egg dishes…it is all seriously amazing. Good vibes (and kids..and dogs) all around. During the week you will see some people like to take their laptops and do some work here.
  • They don’t take reservations for brunch/lunch/bfast but the wait is never that bad.

TASTING KITCHEN – (8.3)

  • Super Trendy American – $$$
  • Best For: Nice Dinner, Date
  • Really cool restaurant on Abbot Kinney, the ambiance is really trendy and modern, the food is incredible, everything on the menu is a little different – think vegetables you have never heard of before, so you will probably google a few things under the table before ordering, but it all tastes great. My only downside to this restaurant is the scene here is a little too quintessential LA and the crowd can be a bit stuffy, so it feels a little too trendy, if that even exists in Venice. Also- portion sizes are a little on the small side for the price. Regardless everyone should definitely come here at least once, but it’s not necessarily the place you keep going back to.
  • Only open for dinner and weekend brunch.

STILL NEED TO GO TO:

BUTCHER’S DAUGHTER

  • Fresh Vegetarian Cafe – $$
  • Must Order:
    • Avocado Toast
  • Best For: Breakfast, Brunch, Lunch
  • The original Butcher’s Daughter is in NYC and this is their first location out in California. The ambiance is really pleasing –  it is a bright and open layout, with a little bit of an industrial feel. Everything on the menu is vegetarian- so if you order the pizza with sausage, it is not actually sausage haha. Aka Gracis Madre, but not Mexican food. No reservations.

ROSE CAFE

  • Hipster Cafe – $$
  • Best For: Breakfast, Brunch, Lunch, Patio
  • Perfect casual spot in Venice to grab brunch or lunch. Really cool artsy / hipster decor, the food is good but nothing to die for. Decor 10, food 8. The bar area is open seating but with a smaller menu. They have this really nice covered patio area which is more of a sit – down restaurant feel and offers the full menu, but there will probably be a wait if you don’t have a reservation.

SALT AIR

  • Fresh, Californian Seafood – $$$
  • Must Order:
    • Pea Toast
    • Lobster Rolls
    • Oysters
  • Best For: Nice Brunch / Lunch
  • Salt air has an upscale beach house vibe – crisp white decor – think Hampton’s meets Venice. Food is amazing, great place to grab seafood during the day, not many places can pull that off. They also serve dinner as well, but I like this place more for during the day. That lobster roll though…

SUNNY SPOT

  • Casual, Caribbean Fusion – $$
  • Best For: Brunch, Bottomless Brunch, Happy Hour
  • So I haven’t made it here yet, but I have heard good things. They serve American food with a twist of Cuban / Caribbean influence. The atmosphere is really fun and laid back – think Caribbean beach bar vibes. On the weekends they do a bottomless brunch for $18 where you can go back and forth between mimosas, bloody Mary’s, or rum punch. They have a happy hour everyday 4-7, with $5 beer, $6 wine, and $8 cocktails.
